transparencies, generations, photographic experiments

We were over at my parents’ house yesterday for a visit. I was playing with the camera and took this triple exposure. I thought it was interesting (although not perfectly composed). It reminds me a little of Lori Novak’s work (not that I’m comparing myself to her, as her work is amazing; I was just messing around). Still, maybe I’ll experiment a little more with this in the future. In the image, you can see my father to the left, me in the center, and Aidan just right of center.

Cool image, Mike! You’ll have to show me how you did it.
Thanks for the comment. I’ll show you how I did it, but it wasn’t that difficult. I used the “multiple exposure” option on the camera (on the D300). You can select from 1 to 10 exposures to be taken on a single frame. I chose three here and tried to be mindful of the composition so as not to create a muddled look with the overlaps. It seems that without adjusting exposure settings as you progress through the sequence, the first of the series becomes increasingly more ghost-like (as it gets overexposed throughout the series.) This makes for a cool effect, I think. I suppose a similar effect would not be too difficult in post-production, overlapping several images using transparent layers. We’ll talk more.
Hi
I think this is really interesting. I will be looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Absolutely beautiful. Composition looks good and placement is nice.
You are very kind. Thanks.
